Finite verbs phrases are verb phrases that function as the  verb in every clause. The finite verb phrase can change tense or person. 

  

Miriam always carries her baby sister on her back.  

Miriam carried her baby sister on her back all day.                                                                          

Miriam and her sister are carrying  babies on their backs.  

Miriam was carrying her baby sister on her back when she heard an animal in the bush

Miriam and her sister have carried  babies on their backs since they were small children. 

Miriam had carried her baby sister on her back all day. She was tired.                                                                      

Miriam and her sister have been carrying  babies on their backs all their lives.                                                 

Miriam could carry her baby sister on her back for a long time.                                                              

Miriam would carry her baby sister on her back all day.                                                                   

Miriam used to carry her baby sister on her back until her sister could walk a long distance. .                                                                  

Miriam could have carried her baby sister on her back forever. .                                                             

Miriam could have been carrying her baby sister on her back the entire week.                                         

Miriam will carry her baby sister on her back until her sister is older.                                                                     

Miriam is going to carry her baby sister on her back all day today.                                                            

Miriam will have carried her baby sister on her back for two years.                                                

By next year, Miriam will have been carrying her baby sister on her back for two years.

To recognize finite verb clauses:

 Change the tense from present to past.
 If the verb is in the present third person singular tense, change the person.
